Champion Frame Street Tracker Project
Champion Frame Street Tracker Project
I found an old flat track Champion frame on eBay and thought it could be made into a cool street tracker. Once the tarnished masterpiece arrived, I had to figure out what do with an old racing frame that was missing a swingarm.
Champion frames were built in the 1970s' by Doug Schwerma. I have always thought that they were a work of art and lusted for one in my flat track racing years.

Memory told me that the Champion frame was a take off of the early Bultaco Pursang frame. I found a Bultaco Frontera swingarm on eBay, rolled the dice and got it. Figuring that if it were close, I could make it fit. It was a perfect fit. It is round, not rectangle like the original Champion swingarm though. I plan on having it nickel plated.

After another hour or two on ebay, I had some cool looking shocks and a Bultaco rear axle on the way.

A used Barnes quick change wheel was purchased a few years ago with this type of project in mind. I made some axle spacers on my little Chinese lathe (I really wish that there was a USA built small lathe available).

I found a Honda XR185R to use for a engine donor.
The mock up aluminum motor mounts were made as templates. I made drawings of the templates and send them to HarshCo Water-Jet Machine Shop to be cut from 0.25" aluminum.

A nice set of Betor forks and a front wheel were found on VFT ads.

The motor mounts are finished and I am routing control cables and wiring.

The inner fender was made from an after market carbon fibre sport bike "hugger".

I found a nice used wheel with a Barnes hub and Akront rim. A 3.50 X 19 Dunlop K70 was mounted. Dig the oldschool disk! Next job is making a bracket for the Grimeca caliper.
I will have more to ad soon. Thanks for looking.
